Maps

A map shows streets on a screen, with your own pins. It can also show live points from a feed, such as buses, vans or sensors. It can show traffic.

When to use it

Use a map to show visitors where things are. For example, the car parks and the shuttle bus at a visitor centre, or the vans of a depot.

Make a map

  1. Select New.
  2. Type a Name.
  3. Drag the map to move it.
  4. Zoom in or out.
  5. Select Add pins on the map.
  6. Click the map where you want a pin.
  7. Under Pins, type a name for each pin.
  8. Select Create.

The middle of the map in the editor is the middle of the map on the screen. The screen also uses the same zoom.

To add a pin by name or address, type in Add a pin by name or address. Then select a result. The pin gets the name and the address of the place, and the map moves to the pin.

To move a pin, drag it on the map. You can also type its Latitude and Longitude. A map has a maximum of 100 pins.

Each pin can have Details, an Icon and a Colour. Leave Colour empty to use the board colour.

How it shows

  • Style: light, dark, or the same as the board.
  • Show pin names: shows the name under each pin.
  • Keep all pins on the screen: the map zooms out when a space is too small for all pins.
  • Show traffic: shows the traffic on the roads. If you cannot turn it on, contact support.

Show live points from a feed

A feed can send points to a map. Each row of the feed needs a name, a latitude and a longitude.

  1. Go to Data Sources.
  2. Make a data source for your feed.
  3. Under Send to, select Map (live points).
  4. Select your map.
  5. Select the feed columns for Name, Latitude and Longitude.

Each update of the feed replaces all the live points. Your own pins do not change. A row with no latitude or longitude does not show.

Show it on a board

Use the Street Map template, or Street Map (Portrait) for a tall screen:

  1. Make a board from the template.
  2. In Content Source, select Add Content.
  3. Select your map.

On a custom board, add a Map block. Then select your map under Map.

The screen gets the map pictures from the internet. If the screen has no connection, it shows the pins without the streets.
