Template versions for boards
Boards are built from templates, and templates get updated over time. This article explains what that means for a board you've already created, and how to move it to a newer template when you're ready.
Why did my board change?
If your board changed and you didn't touch it, here's what happened and why.
Small styling fixes, such as colour, spacing or font tweaks, can reach your board straight away. These don't change what your board shows or how it's arranged, so we apply them for you automatically.
Anything bigger, such as a new layout, a different widget, or a change to what your board shows, always ships as a new template version instead. It never applies to your board on its own. You'll see an Update available tag on the board and on its tile on your dashboard, and a banner on the board page invites you to look at what's new whenever you're ready.
Nothing moves your board without you. You decide if and when to take a new version, and you can undo the change afterwards if it isn't what you expected. See Moving a board to a newer template below for how.
Moving a board to a newer template
When a newer version of your board's template is ready, you'll see an Update available tag on the board card and on its dashboard tile. Open the board to see a banner explaining what's new.
- Click Preview on the banner to see how the newer version will look before you commit to anything.
- If you're happy with it, click Switch. You'll see a list of what's changing first, so there are no surprises.
- Confirm to apply the newer template version to your board.
Changed your mind? Click Undo on the banner straight after switching to bring back the version you had before.
Boards built from scratch in the layout editor (grid boards, with no template) aren't affected by any of this, since they don't follow a template to begin with.
