YouTube

Add YouTube URLs to embed on boards: ambient looping video, training clips, music videos. Each entry plays the video directly from YouTube.

What it's great for

YouTube suits anything already filmed and hosted: a hotel lobby's ambient looping video, or a gym playing a workout demo on repeat.

Any venue with an existing YouTube channel or a supplier's promotional video reaches for this rather than re-uploading the file to Media. youtube-v1 plays the video full screen, honours its autoplay, mute, loop and controls settings, and can show the standard NowBoard header alongside it.

How to add a video

  1. Click Add video.
  2. Enter a Name and paste the YouTube URL.
  3. Add an optional Description for your own reference.
  4. Set the playback options (see below).
  5. Leave Active on to make it available to boards.
  6. Click Add video to save.

The YouTube URL field accepts any link that contains a YouTube video id, including:

If the link doesn't contain a recognisable video id, saving is blocked with a warning so you can fix it before it's added.

Autoplay, sound and loop

Channels can't play sound reliably on autoplay, so Muted is on by default and the form labels it "required for autoplay". Leave both Autoplay and Muted on together for a video that starts and plays silently as soon as it's shown. Turn on Loop to replay the video continuously, and Show controls only if you want the YouTube player controls visible on the board.

Start at (seconds) skips ahead before playback begins. YouTube doesn't tell us how long a video runs, so set Total length (seconds) once so playlists know how long to give it in a slot.

Finding and managing videos

Use Filters to search by name or URL. The Playback column shows which of Autoplay, Muted, Loop and Controls are turned on for each video, and Status shows Active or Inactive. Use the pencil and bin icons on a row to edit or delete a video.
