QR Codes

Scannable codes for menus, bookings, contact details, Wi-Fi and more. A published QR code becomes available to any board design that includes a QR block.

What it's great for

QR Codes suit anything a visitor should scan rather than read: a café's table-ordering code, or a gym's leave-a-review prompt.

Retail, leisure, hotel, office, care and events venues get the most from qrcode-v1, a bold heading and a large scannable code for booking links, menus, Wi-Fi or contact details. Shops, hotels, restaurants, healthcare venues and gyms use feedback-review-v1 to point the same code at Google, Tripadvisor or a survey.

How to add a QR code

  1. Click New QR code.
  2. Enter a Title (this is an internal name, it isn't shown on the board).
  3. Choose a Purpose (see below).
  4. Enter the Value to encode, the link or text the code actually points to.
  5. Add a Heading (shown above the QR on screen) and a Caption (small text underneath), if you want them.
  6. Optionally set the Dark colour and Light colour of the code.
  7. Leave Published on to make it visible to display boards.
  8. Click Create.

Choosing a purpose

Purpose is a label that helps you find the right code later and hints at what to put in Value to encode: Web URL for any https:// link, Menu for a link to a menu PDF or page, Booking for a reservation or appointment link, Contact for a mailto:, tel: or vCard, Plain text for any text payload, and Other for anything that doesn't fit. Choose Wi-Fi for a guest network (see below).

Wi-Fi codes

With the purpose set to Wi-Fi, the Value to encode box is replaced by the network itself: the Network name, the Security type (WPA / WPA2 / WPA3, WEP, or No password for an open network), the Password, and whether the network is Hidden. The code is built from these, and the preview shows what a phone will scan.

Keep the network here once. A Guest Wi-Fi board shows the name and password in large type beside the scan-to-join code: link this code on the board's Content tab. When the password changes, change it here and every Guest Wi-Fi board that links the code updates. A Wi-Fi code made before these fields existed keeps working, and its details are filled in for you the first time you open it.

Value to encode is exactly what the scanning phone receives, so it must be a complete link or piece of text (for example a full https:// address), not a partial one. Saving is blocked until both Title and Value to encode are filled in (for a Wi-Fi code, the Network name, and the Password unless the network is open).

Sizing and appearance

The QR code's on-screen size and placement are set by the board design it appears on, not by this page. Here you can only set its two colours: Dark colour defaults to black and Light colour defaults to white. Pick colours with enough contrast between them, or the code may not scan reliably.

Finding and managing codes

Use Filters to search by title. The Purpose and Encodes columns show each code's purpose and its value at a glance, and Status shows Published or Draft. Use the pencil and bin icons on a row to edit or delete a code.
