Beam
Beam lets a visitor show a tab from their own laptop on one of your screens, with a short code. They need no cable, no app and no account. Beam is on the Professional and Enterprise plans.
How Beam works
- A visitor opens beam.nowboard.tv on their laptop.
- They type the code shown on your screen.
- They pick a browser tab to share, and it appears on the screen.
- When they stop, the screen goes back to showing its code.
What Beam needs
- A NowBoard Player Pro or the Windows player on the screen. Other players cannot show a shared tab yet.
- A Channel of its own. The Beam board is the only thing that Channel plays.
More than one screen
Every screen on a Beam Channel shows the same code. When a visitor beams, their tab appears on up to 5 of those screens at once, and their page says how many. Any screens past 5 keep showing the code. Each extra screen uses more of the visitor's upload, so a slow connection may look less sharp on 5 screens than on 1.
Turning Beam on
- Open Control → Beam and click Enable Beam.
- Give the Channel a name (it starts as "Beam") and pick its Site, or add a new Site.
- Click Create. NowBoard makes a Beam board and a Channel that plays only it.
- Open the new Channel and assign a Player Pro or Windows player to it.
Your Beam Channels
Once Beam is on, the page lists every Beam Channel with its Site, its Player, and what it is doing now:
- Beaming: a visitor is sharing to it now.
- Guest waiting: a visitor has typed the code and is waiting for an admin to let them in.
- Ready: the screen is showing its code.
A Channel with neither a Player Pro nor a Windows player says so. Click Add another Beam channel for another room. Open board opens the Beam board, and Approval settings takes you to its "Ask an admin before a guest can present" switch.
