Players

A Player is the physical device — a NowBoard Player Pro, a smart TV running the NowBoard Player App, or a browser tab — that connects to a Channel and plays its content. A Channel is one content feed at one spot, with its own settings and schedule; the Player is the hardware behind it doing the actual playback. Use this page to see every player you own, check which are online, and open one to manage or troubleshoot it.

Player against Channel

Pair a new device once and it becomes a Player. Assign that Player to a Channel to make it show that Channel's Playlist. One Player is usually assigned to one Channel, but you can reassign a Player to a different Channel at any time without re-pairing the hardware.

What the statuses mean

  • Online — paired, assigned, and actively sending heartbeats.
  • Assigned — paired and linked to a Channel, but not currently checking in.
  • Claimed — paired to your organisation but not yet assigned to a Channel.
  • Unclaimed — a fresh device showing a pairing code, not yet paired to anyone.
  • Revoked — permanently disabled; the hardware must be re-paired to use it again.

The small dot beside a player's name is separate from its status: it shows whether a heartbeat arrived in the last three minutes, so you can spot a player that's gone quiet even while its status still says online.

Player details

Open a player to see its Channel (with Change and Remove), last heartbeat, when it was claimed and assigned, its device identifiers (device ID, CPU serial, MAC, IP address, resolution), and its firmware — the running version, commit, build time, and update channel.

Remote commands

Upgrade & restart queues the player to pull the latest firmware image and restart within a minute. Revoke device disables it and blocks its token — the hardware needs to be re-paired to come back. Delete permanently removes it from your account entirely, freeing the hardware to be paired as a brand new device.

Identify shows the player's name, with its Channel underneath, on that one screen for thirty seconds, so you can find it in a room. It is on the player's page, on each row of the Players list, and in the bar when you tick several players. A screen that is offline at the time shows it if it checks in within the thirty seconds.

Playback controls (pause, skip, jump to a board, force sleep or wake) live on the player's assigned Channel page, not here, since those commands affect what's playing on the Channel rather than the device itself.
