Menus

Use this page to build the food and drink menus your boards display: a menu is a named set of sections (Starters, Mains, Drinks) and each section holds a list of items with a name, price and optional details. Open a menu from the list to edit it, or create one with New menu.

What it's great for

Menus suit any named list of items with a price: a café or restaurant's food and drink menu, a school canteen's Monday-to-Friday lunch, or a hotel spa's treatment price list.

Schools, care homes and offices with a staff canteen get the most from it, because weekly-menu-v2 and todays-lunch-v1 are built around a Monday-to-Friday week rather than a restaurant-style set of sections. Hotels, leisure venues and healthcare venues with a spa or wellness offer use treatment-menu-v2 for a price list with durations, and restaurants, cafés, hotels and retail venues use menu-full-v1, specials-board-v2 and offers-v2 for a full menu, a chalkboard of specials, or a price-led promotions board.

How to build a menu

  1. Click New menu and give it a name and optional description.
  2. Open the menu and click Add section. Set Available from and Available to if it should only show at certain times (a breakfast section, say); leave both blank for an all-day section.
  3. Inside a section, click Add item and fill in the name, price and description.
  4. Use the up/down arrows on the section header and on each item's Order column to reorder.
  5. New sections and items are queued as unsaved changes: click Save to commit them, or Discard to drop them.

Prices and dietary badges

Prices are entered and shown in your organisation's currency and locale; you can also edit a price directly in the items table. The Dietary badges field lets you tag an item with short codes such as V (vegetarian), VG (vegan), GF (gluten-free), DF (dairy-free) or N (contains nuts). There's no dedicated allergens field on an item yet: an Allergens list can be kept under Categories & tags for reference, but use Dietary badges (for example N) to flag allergen-relevant items meanwhile.

Categories, subcategories and images

Type or pick a Category, then a matching Subcategory, for each item; new values are created automatically. Manage the full lists (names, icons, colours) from Categories & tags in the overflow menu. A coloured category shows as a strip next to the item's name. Add an image via Upload (JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 2 MB) or Gallery to pick one from your media library.

Importing items from a CSV

From the overflow menu, choose Import CSV to add many items at once. The file needs a header row with required columns section, name and price; optional columns are description, dietary, available and sortOrder. Sections named in the file that don't already exist are created automatically. Rows are skipped, and listed as errors, when a required column is missing, a row is missing section, name or price, or a price isn't a valid, non-negative number.

Once loaded, choose a mode: Add to existing items appends the rows, while Replace items in matching sections removes current items in any section the file touches and uses the file's rows instead. Imported items are staged, not saved immediately: click Save to commit, or discard to cancel.

Availability and bulk actions

Each item has Available and Sold out toggles: Available off hides an item from the board, Sold out keeps it visible but marked unavailable. Select multiple items with the row checkboxes for a bulk action bar: move to another section, mark available, unavailable, sold out or in stock, or delete.
